2021, A New Year begins at Hames Hall Residential Care Home in Cockermouth
Care Home in Cockermouth, Hames Hall started 2021 with a special New Year’s buffet breakfast. Followed later in the day by Haley’s traditional roast beef lunch with all the trimmings. To finish we had Haley’s very own recipe of white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake. Then all washed down with a glass of ‘bubbly’. It was delicious!
The annual New Year’s Day concert from Vienna, enjoyed by all on our 65 inch lounge television.
Our residents contacted their families via Facetime, Skype or on the phone to wish all a happy new year.
Seven days later and we were greeted by a blanket of snow. The grounds of the home looked like a winter wonderland. Our resident pheasants looked ‘icy and ‘fluffy’.
The Big Roll Out at Hames Hall Residential Care Home in Cockermouth
Huge smiles on faces and shouts of cheer as the VACCINE TEAM were here!
The afternoon of Thursday 7th January all our residents and staff were ready. Sleeves sleeves rolled up to receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
Susan J waved the flag and Kayley took photographs. Then the procession started with Marian in the lead. Faye and Amy were waiting in the conservatory with the nurses, to give reassurance if needed. Michelle made sure that tea and cakes were ready to go once the vaccine received. Everyone complimented the nurses on their efficient process. Roll on vaccine number two!
Virtual Poetry With The Wordsworth Trust at Hames Hall Residential Care Home in Cockermouth
Our poetry enthusiast’s first theme of the New Year was ‘winter’. After the session, Lilian from the Wordsworth Trust very kindly comprised a lovely ‘winter’ poem. Lilian used winter memories from Mary, Elizabeth, Vilma, Elsie, Barbara, and some of her own.
Celebrating Rabbie Burns
We celebrated the Scottish poet with an afternoon of poetry with our very own Scottish lady, Elizabeth. Elizabeth started the readings with ‘A Red Red Rose’ and everyone sang ‘Auld Lang Syne’ to close.
Big Bird Watching Weekend at Hames Hall Residential Care Home in Cockermouth
We have many residents who find birdwatching an enjoyable and exciting pastime. Mary has been a member of the Whinlatter osprey centre for many years.
Staff and residents took to the conservatory and garden with their binoculars. They were proud of their sightings. The yellow chest and green/blue wings of the ‘great tit’ and a ‘woodpecker’ were delightful to see. The bird watch weekend finished with an ‘All about birds’ quiz.
Two January birthdays – many best wishes were sent to David and Linda.
