Welcome to our July update – this month has been about new beginnings, we welcomed new staff, picked lavender and enjoyed some music and memory time.

A warm welcome to Kathryn

My name is  Kathryn, I am the new Activities Coordinator at Hillview and will work closely with Philip the current activities assistant and Laura who is new to the role of Well-being  Coordinator.

(Though Laura is already known to many at Hillview as a former carer).

I have worked in care homes since 2009 and have an NVQ 2 in Care with Activity modules.

I moved in September with my husband  to Weston-super-Mare from North East Hampshire and I have a passion for Person Centred Care at Hillview.

My E numbers I currently am working too are:

  • Enhance
  • Enrich
  • Encourage
  • Engage

Working with such a positive team at Hillview who are ready to share ideas and who are very encouraging is most refreshing.

My selfie is taken in front of the new wall tree in the activities lounge (conservatory).

Tic-Tac-Toe

We have been playing Tic-Tac-Toe as daily physical and dexterous movement is important for mobility and gets those happy genes flowing. The residents loved playing it and two of the men didn’t want to miss out and asked for their turn –  the game got quite competitive too!

Garden

Going into the garden, looking at the washing on ‘the Siegfried Line’ and meeting Rachel, one of our laundry ladies. Picking Lavender and smelling the herbs. The simple pleasure of lavender, passed round the sitting room, brought smiles and memories. We sang ‘Lavenders Blue Dilly Dilly’ together.

Music and Memory Time

We are very blessed with Philip who leads the men with his  clear tenor  voice and the lady resident sopranos harmonise with clarity.

During a music and Memories time, football became the subject and the men got very animated about their teams with gentle banter. We were treated to some football songs too which one of our wives was well versed with.

Team spirit at Hillview was definitely Top of the Table.

We hope you enjoyed our July roundup – and look forward to what August has in store for us, in the meantime, stay safe and well everyone.

With love from us all at Hillview.
