The sun came out from behind the clouds to brighten our ‘Beach day’ at Hames Hall Residential Care at Cockermouth in Cumbria.
Our ‘warm up’ session with Kayley and Michelle encouraged all to get their arms and legs moving to the music, this prepared everyone for the ‘Beach volley ball’ game. The big colourful ball was gently passed from person to person, going round in a circle while the music played. When the music stopped, the person holding the ball enthralled everyone with their personal holiday memories.
Every Sunday and Wednesday throughout the month – watched on the huge ‘65inch’ TV in the lounge.
Sidney James, Barbara Windsor and the gang started our August movies with ‘Carry on Camping’. Followed by ‘Casablanca’ ‘Summer holiday’, ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ ‘Sound of Music’ ‘Annie’ ‘Oliver’ ‘Laurel & Hardy’ and ‘Calamity Jane’
You would regularly find our resident challengers, Mary, Elsie and Shirley being amazed with each other’s quest for new words.
Reminiscence mornings at Hames Hall Residential Care at Cockermouth in Cumbria
We were thrilled to have Shirley back this month to reminisce, the weather was good so we were able to enjoy this in the garden. The theme to share memories and thoughts this month was ‘holidays and ‘summer time’. Everyone reflected on their past experiences and the memories they hold dear.
Virtual poetry afternoon from the Wordsworth trust
Our very own Amazing Hames Hall poetry book is quickly expanding inspired by Lilian from the Wordsworth trust, this month you could hear the ladies taking part singing their poetry. https://wordsworth.org.uk/
Appreciating the natural open space on our back door, the residents and staff enjoyed ‘Music and Movement’ in the garden to a variety of ‘summer songs’. Followed by ice-cream cones with sprinkles and flakes.
Wonderful Wildlife at Hames Hall Residential Care at Cockermouth in Cumbria
Also while appreciating our wildlife environment, we have been listening for birdsong while keeping the garden tidy by removing the flowers and shrubs which have faded, allowing new to grow. Our resident Noreen has made sure the bird feeders are kept full of birdseed and the bird baths full of clean water.
During the meeting everyone expressed how happy they were that our new garden resident had received a little house made especially for him. Jean and Hannah (keyworker) got Jean’s son Malcolm involved, they discussed how best to keep Henry safe so Malcolm kindly offered to make Henry a safe home.
National Afternoon Tea Week
Our residents celebrated national afternoon tea week on Wednesday 12th August.
Our cooks did us proud with an array of fancy cakes! This included, scones with traditional strawberry jam, rhubarb and ginger jam with clotted cream, there were little pastries and delicate sandwich’s cut into fingers. All displayed on tiered cake stands. Everyone enjoyed the selection of teas, which included earl grey, peppermint and fruity.
August has been a busy birthday month at Hames, we have celebrated two residents and five staff birthdays.
Looking forward to our Macmillan coffee morning in September!
