The Mews Care Home
The Mews is situated in New Herrington, north of Houghton-le-Spring in Durham, within easy reach of shops and other amenities, public transport and the A1(M) and A19. At The Mews we provide a safe, comfortable environment with professional care and support including Residential, Dementia and General Nursing care. We also offer Respite Care for short term, temporary relief for those who are caring for family members and loved ones. We are located in a quiet location with spacious grounds, within easy reach of local shops, Herrington Country Park and Penshaw.
All the bedrooms offer single occupancy and are en-suite with a toilet and sink. The Mews has TV lounges and a quiet sitting room with separate dining rooms, where residents can join the company of others at mealtimes. Our Chef prepares a wide range of home cooked food based upon traditional cooking using fresh produce. Special diets are catered for, and daily choices are available. The home is attended by an experienced hair stylist, a qualified chiropodist and a range of complementary therapies can be arranged to suit individual requirements at a small fee. A varied programme of activities also takes place in the home for the benefit of residents. The home has recently been fully refurbished and now offers a hairdressing salon, coffee shop and bar area where families and friends can meet.
The Mews is family orientated and enjoys a good rapport with Residents and their families, to work in a way that helps achieve our common aims. We have a well-trained and friendly team who work well together. We have a positive reputation with fellow health professionals and community-based organisations in our area. Care within The Mews is based around each individual Resident’s needs, from modest care requirements to those individuals who require more intensive care including nursing and Palliative Care needs. This care is delivered with patience, kindness and understanding by our staff. Special emphasis is placed on the social and emotional needs of our Residents, and we welcome and promote input into the care provided for our Residents from the Resident themselves and family members, which helps us achieve a positive and holistic approach to each individual Resident, promoting choice and preference at all times.
