Happy Chinese New year 2020!!!

Decorations

At Belmont, we celebrated the Chinese New Year in true style! We decorated the home with some authentic Chinese paper lanterns and some Chinese wall art. They brightened up the home to no end, and all the residents really like the decorations, before we put them up, some residents had some sensory sessions as they felt so soft and looked like pom poms, so we did have a little cheer-leading session before they went up!! Some residents liked them that much; they had some put up in their bedrooms. They were so bright in colours red and gold!

Chinese Feast

We had a Chinese feast to see in the year of the rat with sweet and sour chicken, egg fried rice, prawn crackers, chips, spring rolls, and satay chicken skewers! Some residents fancied some chips, so we had that too, a real take away in the home!! The food went down a treat! We even had some family and friends join us, and they loved it too! One family member said that they thought it was lovely that we celebrated because we didn’t need to; however, Belmont’s response was any excuse for a party!!!

Zodiac Sign of the Rat

We also did some Chinese themed activities. We made some Chinese boxes and also checked what our Chinese zodiac sign was. Anyone born in these years 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020 had a zodiac sign of the rat, which mean that it was their year! Chinese culture, they believe the following facts about those who are zodiac signs are rats:

Lucky things for Rats

  • Colors: blue, gold, green
  • Numbers: 2, 3
  • Flowers: lily, African violet, valley lily
  • Directions of auspiciousness: southeast, northeast
  • Directions of wealth: southeast, east
  • Directions of love: west

Unlucky things

  • Colors: yellow, brown
  • Numbers: 5, 9

Some residents agreed, although not everyone was convinced! Whatever your zodiac sign, we hope everyone else celebrated in style and have a healthy, and prosperous new year!

新年快乐 – Happy new year!
