December News at Holmewood Residential Home
After a long and difficult year, we were all thrilled to finally welcome December at Holmewood Residential Home in Cumbria. We were more than ready for some festive cheer and the season did not disappoint! See our home at churchlakecare.com/holmewood-residential-home/
Decorations at Holmewood
The staff decorated Holmewood with two marvellous Christmas trees, and made all communal areas feel as festive as possible! We thoroughly enjoyed the transformation. It made a huge difference to the spirits of the residents.
Visiting Loved Ones
We were thrilled to be able to open for visits recently. Big thanks to Paul for creating a custom-built screen to enable us to create a safe space for residents to meet with their loved ones. Although this is a far cry from this time last year, the ability to see loved ones face-to-face made all involved incredibly happy. We had lots of appointments. The benefits to our residents were clear to see.
For those who were unable to visit their loved ones, we have been fortunate enough to have our new Wi-Fi system installed, enabling us to facilitate Zoom calls with family and friends.
Seasonal Activities at Holmewood Residential Home in Cumbria
We had a new venture with entertainment this month, as we had a ‘Virtual Poetry Session’ via our new iPad with the lovely Lilian, this is definitely something we will do again!
The wonderful care staff also helped our residents make Christmas Cards for their loved ones. The handmade touch made things incredibly special. We hope that all recipients loved their cards.
We hosted a Christmas Party for the residents the week prior to the big day. Our amazing cook, Sharon, made a spectacular buffet lunch. Staff dressed in Christmas clothing to celebrate the day, carols were playing and Christmas movies were on the television in the lounge! It was a wonderful day!
The care staff also hosted carol singing, and festive themed games to keep spirits high and entertainment ongoing!
Our Christmas Day was not celebrated in the typical fashion. We were fortunate to be able to facilitate visits for several appointments on the big day, as well as the days surrounding it. Lots of gifts filled the home! So kindly brought by kind families and friends. We also had a Secret Santa, as part of an ongoing tradition, where staff purchased gifts for residents. On Christmas morning gifts were handed to our residents. We had an incredible Christmas Dinner cooked by Maureen, one of our lovely Cooks. This year the residents chose to have a choice of Turkey or Glazed Ham. Maureen had also made an incredible Christmas Cake for all to enjoy, which went down a treat!
