June was a busy month for both residents and staff here at Hames Hall, we’ve celebrated National Smile Day, watched lots of sport on the television and enjoyed being outside in the garden. We hope you enjoy reading what else we’ve been up to.

National Smile Day

We asked everyone to share their happy thoughts and favourite jokes or riddles. Our Michael keeps everyone in tears of laughter with his ‘pet names’ for the staff:

Faye – Faye Fontana and the mind benders

Jack – Jack and the beanstalk

Tracey – Lakeland laundry

These are just a few….!

A favourite of the jokes that were expressed:  ‘Why is there no Asprin in the jungle?’  ‘Because the Parrots eat em all!’

A happy thought of the day:  ‘Whoever is happy will make others happy’

Warm Sunny days in the garden

Our mini wild flower meadow on the front lawn is flourishing, attracting the bees and butterflies and hopefully helping all the tiny insects thrive.

Mary’s mini flower plot at the centre of the vegetable garden is also blooming with lots of bright colours.

Denise and Tina made up the plant pots for the front entrance with the lovely Lavender, Roses and Monterey cypress trees.

Our residents have enjoyed playing the traditional game of ‘Quoits’ on the lawn – each person takes a turn to throw their ring over the pin. There was much deliberation about the distance and the throwing techniques had everyone in giggles but everyone taking part commented they had such a fun time.

Trooping the Colour

All eyes were on Her Majesty the Queen as she celebrated her official birthday – born in 1926. Our residents reflected on the years that they were born and all the historic events and innovation that has taken place.

Royal Ascot, Wimbledon and the European Football Championship

The Hames Hall England flags are flying high!

On day two of Royal Ascot – both residents and staff enjoyed homemade scones and strawberry jam topped with fresh cream accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine, while watching the racing and all the attendees in their finery on our 65 inch lounge television.

Great cheers could be heard all around the home as the England football team progressed through the tournament and all our tennis enthusiasts were cheering on Emma Raducanu.

Sunday 20th June – Happy Father’s Day

We celebrated Father’s day with a lovely buffet tea and everyone took time to reflect and give thanks to the special men – Father’s and Father figures in their lives.

Reminiscence with John and Shirley

We reminisced through our favourite songs along with John and his keyboard – John’s enthusiasm always has everyone’s feet tapping and singing along.

And we reminisced with Shirley who always ensures that our residents attending have big smiles on their faces, as they discuss and compare their experiences of years gone by – always included in the activity – a quiz and a music session. June’s theme was ‘The 50’s & 60’s.

Residents Meeting

Just a few of the requests put forward at the meeting – Please can we have a  pond in the garden and keep the avacado’s coming.

June Birthdays

Lots of Happy Birthday wishes went to Sandra and Kayley who celebrated their birthdays this month.

A BIG thank you

To R & R Fire Risk Consultants for their exceptional staff fire safety training, delivered in-house giving hands on experience ‘skillfully with a touch of cheeky humour.’
