Bonfire night fun at Hillview Nursing home in Burnham-on-Sea
November started with a bang at Hillview Nursing home in Burnham-on-Sea. Churchlakecare.com/hillview-care-home-in-burnham/ We had fireworks and a buffet. In the daytime we made a ‘guy’ for the bonfire and we also made edible ‘sparklers’. We dipped breadsticks in melted chocolate and covered in sprinkles. There was even some left over for the staff.
Remembrance at Hillview
Coming into Remembrance Week, we read remembrance poems and playing of the last post day on the 10th Nov. We then arranged a full remembrance service on the 11th, just like a real church service. The residents really enjoyed it. The service was particularly special for those that miss being able to go to church or a parade at this time of year.
We loved our visit from Charm!
Following this, we had a visit from our administrator’s dog Charm, the black Labrador. She really was a joy for the residents and everyone in the lounge couldn’t get enough of her cuddles.
World Kindness Day at Hillview Nursing Home in Somerset
World Kindness Day www.randomactsofkindness.org/world-kindness-day 13th Nov. We thought it would be nice to make ‘thank you’ cards for our loved ones. One or two residents decided to keep their cards in their room as a daily reminder of their friends and family. We really enjoyed talking about who the cards were for. The cards turned out great and its good practice for when we do a Xmas card exchange with a local pre school.
National Geography Week
National Geography week www.nationalgeographic.org/education/programs/geography-awareness-week/ came next at Hillview Nursing home in Burnham-on-Sea. We completed flag quizzes, explored an interactive map and at the end of the week we decorated our own UK map for display on the wall. My favourite being a complete glittery one for that added sparkle in the room.
