Autumn Begins at Hames Hall

Lots of September Highlights at Hames Hall. https://churchlakecare.com/hames-hall-residential-home/ An array of golden leaves are garland about the home, thanks to Hannah who got everyone involved in the craft of making the paper leaves, carefully colouring and cutting out the shapes, then putting them up on display.

National Fish And Chip Day at Hames Hall

On Friday 4th September we celebrated national fish and chip day. Our local fish monger Gilbert who is based just up the road at the Gilroux springs trout farm and fishery supplied us with the fresh cod and haddock and Haley made her own special batter mix.

Haley wrapped the freshly fried fish and chips in her special parchment paper, for a real ‘chip shop’ feel. Mushy peas and a wedge of lemon on the side complemented the meal.

Armchair Ten-Pin Bowling at Hames Hall

Much laughter could be heard during the armchair game of bowling. Unfortunately there were no ‘strikes’ but everyone had a fun time.

Virtual Poetry With The Wordsworth Trust

There was no particular theme for the poetry this month. Mary read the blessing ‘For Presence’ by the Irish poet John O’ Donohue

Awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.

Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.

Receive encouragement when new frontiers beckon.

Respond to the call of your gift and the courage to follow its path.

Let the flame of anger free you of all falsity.

May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame, May anxiety never linger about you, May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.

Take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek.

Reminiscence Mornings at Hames Hall

The theme for September was ‘School days’ Residents reflected on their time spent at school where most had to walk a long way there and back each day, until they were lucky enough maybe to acquire a bicycle. Elizabeth delighted in telling us all about the bicycle’s that she and her brother received from their two ‘maiden aunts’.

Music And Movement

We celebrated the ‘Good old days’ at the Music Hall. Arms were swaying to the ‘sing a long’ songs of Daisy Daisy and Down at the old Bull and Bush to name a few.

Piano Afternoon at Hames Hall

From calm and relaxing ballads to upbeat melodies, the residents were carried away listening while enjoying a glass of sherry or baileys Irish cream.

The Royal Quiz

We had two teams for our Royal quiz ‘The crown Jewels’ and the ‘Corgi’s. The Corgi’s won by three points 9 – 6

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Everyone looks forward to our annual coffee morning in support of Macmillan. We usually have a Tombola and other games. Due to the restrictions at this time we held a ‘social distance’ refreshments and a raffle for residents and their families and were delighted with the amount raised.

September Birthdays at Hames Hall

We were so thrilled to celebrate our resident Kathleen’s 101st birthday with her. Kathleen was overjoyed with all the good wishes she received with cards, gifts, balloons and of course the special birthday cake. Our special Lady, Kathleen said she had a ‘wonderful day’
